Inside a municipal room, five committee members and two citizens deliberate over the monthly agenda. But what begins as a routine meeting slips into absurdity as the group finds itself in a disorienting and mimetic contest over a bench. Tensions flare, communication breaks, and differences collapse into a vengeful sameness. A cluster of bodies seeking to be nested, is a short experimental film where procedural formalities are effaced by what become fanatics in the room.
… there is a watcher, as you watch, being watched. There is a seat, an inside and an outside, as you sit, being sat next to. The habit will hold its place if you sit there, and watch, long enough.
Doris Mari Demetriadou (b. 1997, Cyprus) is a multidisciplinary artist inquiring into the psyche as a field of social and individual friction. Her work stages the irrational within formal structures of habit; working across visual media, sculpture, and participatory systems, she transforms these frameworks into theatres that reveal the tension between our physical reality and the speculative mythologies of the soul.
Since 2018, Doris has been a member of Endrosia: an interdisciplinary collective based in Nicosia, Cyprus. Focused on long-term research, self-publishing, and curation, the collective was part of the Cypriot Pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale (2024).
Doris holds a BA (Hons) in Fashion Marketing and Communication (UK) and is currently completing her MFA in Design at the Sandberg Instituut (NL).
